Construction Process
- Site Excavation
- The first day began with the complete excavation of the old gravel and underlying soil. The area was dug out to the required depth to allow for a new, robust foundation suitable for vehicle traffic.
- Sub-Base & Screed
- A solid sub-base of MOT Type 1 hardcore was laid thoroughly compacted. This was followed by a precisely levelled bedding course of sharp sand, screeded to ensure a perfectly smooth and even surface for the new pavers.
- Block Paving & Border
- We laid premium Tobermore Jet Black block pavers in a classic 45-degree herringbone pattern for maximum strength and visual appeal. The driveway was framed with a contrasting light grey block paver, creating a clean, sharp border that defines the space.
- Recessed Drain Cover
- To maintain a seamless and uninterrupted finish, the old, visible drain cover was replaced with a new recessed manhole tray. This allows the paving pattern to be laid directly into the cover, making it blend discreetly into the driveway.
- Finishing Touches
- Once all blocks were laid and cuts were made, kiln-dried sand was brushed into the joints and the entire area was compacted. This locks the pavers firmly together, creating a durable and long-lasting surface.
