Project Overview
This project involved a grand, sweeping driveway at a beautiful property in Sevenoaks. However, the existing driveway surface was tired and cracking. The driveway required a complete resurfacing to restore it to a standard benefiting the property.
Before: The property’s grand entrance was let down by a vast, reddish-coloured driveway that had become tired and worn. The surface was uneven, breaking up in several areas, and was littered with potholes, which detracted from the home’s impressive aesthetic and created an uneven ride.
After: The entire driveway has been completely transformed with a flawless new tarmac surface. The deep black Stone Mastic Asphalt provides a smooth, seamless, and durable finish, creating a sweeping and impressive approach to the home. The new driveway is now a clean, practical, and visually stunning feature that perfectly complements the property’s grand character.
Construction Process
- Site Preparation & Cleaning
- The first step was to meticulously prepare the existing surface. The entire driveway was power-cleaned to remove all dirt, moss, and loose debris. Any significant potholes or damaged areas were filled and levelled to create a uniform base, ensuring the new tarmac layer would be of a consistent depth.
- Tack Coat Application
- A hot bitumen emulsion (tack coat) was sprayed evenly across the entire prepared surface. This crucial step acts as a powerful adhesive, creating a strong bond between the old base and the new tarmac layer. This prevents slippage and ensures the new surface becomes a single, integrated structure with the foundation.
- Machine & Hand Laying of Tarmac
- The new 6mm tarmac was delivered hot and laid using a combination of a specialised paving machine for the large open areas and skilled hand-laying for the detailed sections. Our experienced team worked quickly and efficiently to spread and rake the tarmac to the correct levels, paying close attention to creating smooth, flowing curves that matched the existing layout and ensuring seamless joints against patios and edging.
- Final Compaction
Immediately after laying, the entire driveway was compacted using a heavy-duty ride-on roller. Multiple passes were made to ensure the tarmac was fully compacted, removing any air pockets and creating a dense, hard-wearing, and perfectly smooth finish designed to withstand vehicle traffic for many years.
