This front pathway in Ramsgate was definitely ready for a facelift. The old concrete path had seen better days – cracked, tired, and not exactly the most welcoming entrance to the house. So, we rolled up our sleeves and got to work giving it the upgrade it deserved.
Before: The old concrete path had definitely seen better days – cracked, worn, and looking a bit dull. It did the job of getting you from the gate to the door, but it wasn’t exactly giving a warm welcome.
After: Goodbye grey concrete, hello fresh block paving! The new path has clean lines, a bold dark finish, and a neat border that makes the whole front garden look sharper. It’s solid, stylish, and built to last – a huge improvement that really lifts the entrance to the home.
Step 1 – Out with the old
First, the existing concrete path was broken up and cleared away. You could already see how much brighter the garden looked just by removing it. We marked out the new shape, keeping it practical but with a little extra style compared to the plain concrete slab that was there before.
Step 2 – Getting the groundwork right
A good pathway always starts with solid preparation. We dug out the area, laid down a proper sub-base, and compacted it, before spreading a sharp sand layer to create the perfect bed for the new blocks. Not the most glamorous stage, but it’s the bit that makes sure the path stays strong for years to come.
Step 3 – Laying the blocks
Next came the fun part – laying the block paving. The chosen blocks were a modern dark tone with contrasting border bricks to really make the path pop. We worked our way from the front gate right up to the front door, carefully cutting and setting each block so it all lined up perfectly.
Step 4 – The finishing touches
Once the blocks were all down, we brushed kiln-dried sand into the joints and gave everything a good compacting to lock it all together. With a quick tidy up of the edges and borders, the new pathway was complete – smooth, solid, and looking miles better than before.
Final Result
The transformation speaks for itself: the old, plain concrete path has been replaced with a sharp-looking block paved walkway that really lifts the whole front garden. It’s not just easier on the eye – it’s more durable, slip-resistant, and adds instant kerb appeal.
