This project in Canterbury involved transforming an uneven and unused garden space into a clean, modern patio area using high-quality grey Indian sandstone.
The existing garden was overgrown and uneven, with little usable space. The aim was to create a practical, level seating area with clear structure, incorporating retaining edges and steps to work with the natural levels of the garden.
Out Process
1. Site Clearance & Preparation
We started by fully clearing the existing garden area, removing old materials, debris, and vegetation to create a blank canvas for the new layout.
2. Timber Retaining Borders
A strong timber sleeper-style border was installed around the perimeter to retain the ground and create a defined “box” for the patio area. This also helps manage the change in levels across the garden.
3. Step Construction
We built a set of timber steps using treated sleepers, providing safe and easy access between levels while keeping everything in line with the overall design.
4. Groundworks & Base Installation
A solid sub-base was laid and compacted to ensure long-term stability. The area was then levelled and prepared, ready for the patio installation.
5. Patio Laying
Grey Indian sandstone slabs were carefully laid on a full mortar bed, ensuring a consistent finish with clean lines and proper drainage.
The Finished Result
The completed patio has completely transformed the garden into a usable and attractive outdoor space. The combination of the light grey sandstone with the natural timber borders creates a modern yet warm look that works perfectly with the surrounding property.
