This Maidstone project involved a full strip and replacement of a terraced property roof, upgrading the entire system with new breathable felt, treated battens, and fibre cement slates.
The existing roof was stripped right back to the rafters, allowing us to rebuild from the structure up and ensure a completely fresh, reliable roofing system.
The Work Carried Out
Working Setup
Due to the roadside location and terraced layout, full scaffolding was installed to allow safe access and efficient progress across the entire roof.
Strip Out & Structural Check
We removed all existing tiles, battens, and felt, exposing the roof structure. With everything opened up, we checked the rafters and made sure the base was sound before starting the rebuild.
Breathable Membrane Installation
A new breathable roofing membrane was installed across all roof sections. This protects the property from water ingress while allowing airflow through the structure to reduce condensation.
Battening Out the Roof
Treated timber battens were installed across the full roof at the correct spacing for the slate system. This stage ensures everything runs straight, level, and consistent across multiple pitches.
Fibre Cement Slate Installation
Fibre cement slates were fitted across the main roof and adjoining sections, creating a sharp, uniform finish. The staggered pattern gives a clean slate look while maintaining durability and efficiency.
Leadwork & Roof Detailing
Lead was installed and dressed into key junctions, including valleys and abutments, to ensure a watertight finish. Particular care was taken around the different roof sections to tie everything together neatly.
The Result
The finished roof has completely transformed the property. What started as a stripped, exposed structure is now a fully rebuilt, weatherproof roofing system with a crisp, modern slate appearance.
The new fibre cement slates provide a consistent dark finish across all roof faces, while the updated felt and batten system ensures long-term protection and performance.
