Block Paved Driveway | Ashford

  • Location: Ashford
  • Project: Block Paved Driveway
  • Duration: 4 days

Project Overview

The primary goal for this project in Ashford was to convert an underutilised front lawn into a functional and aesthetically pleasing driveway. The aim was to create valuable and safe off-road parking while significantly enhancing the home’s kerb appeal with a modern, stylish design.

Before

The front of the property was a simple lawn with a narrow, worn-out path. While pleasant, it didn’t offer any off-road parking, which was a key requirement for the homeowner.

After

The change is dramatic and highly effective. The old lawn and path have been replaced with a spacious and attractive block paved driveway. The brindle coloured pavers, with their warm, multi-tonal hues, create a welcoming feel and complement the brickwork of the house perfectly. The new driveway not only looks fantastic but has also created a significant amount of practical parking space.

Step 1 – Site Excavation & Preparation
The first step was to completely clear the area. The existing turf and old pathway were removed, and the entire area was excavated to the required depth. This created a clean and solid base to begin the construction of the new driveway.

Step 2 – Edging & Sub-Base Installation
With the ground prepared, a smart charcoal block paver edge was laid around the perimeter of the new driveway. This provides a strong and stable edge restraint and creates a crisp, contrasting border that frames the main paving. A heavy-duty membrane was then laid to suppress weed growth, followed by a substantial layer of MOT Type 1 hardcore, which was thoroughly compacted to create a solid foundation.

Step 3 – Laying the Block Paving

A screeded layer of sand was laid over the compacted sub-base to provide a level bed for the pavers. The main area of the driveway was then paved using ‘Brindle’ coloured blocks, laid in a classic 45-degree herringbone pattern. This is a popular and timeless choice that is known for its strength and visual appeal.

Step 4 – Final Finishing

To complete the project, kiln-dried sand was brushed into all the joints between the pavers. This locks the blocks together, creating a strong, durable, and cohesive surface that is ready for immediate use.

Final Result

This project in Blean, Canterbury is another great example of how block paving can enhance both the look and function of an outdoor space. With strong foundations and a professionally laid finish, this pathway will serve the property for many years to come.
