Flat Roof Replacement & Asbestos Removal | Strood, Kent
Location: Strood, Kent
Project: Garage Flat Roof Repalcement & Asbestos Removal
Duration: 2 days
We recently completed a bespoke Tobermore Bracken block paved patio in Postling, near Canterbury, transforming a tired and unused garden area into a stylish, functional outdoor space.
The customer wanted a low-maintenance seating area that blended naturally with the surrounding landscape while adding structure and character to the garden.

The Before
As shown in the images, the original roof was in poor condition:
- Ageing corrugated asbestos sheets with heavy moss and wear
- Weak and deteriorating timber framework
- Failing guttering and poor water drainage
- Damaged brickwork around the roofline
- General signs of long-term weather exposure and neglect
Due to the presence of asbestos, careful handling and removal were essential before any new work could begin.
The Finished Result
The completed project has completely transformed the structure:
- Safe removal of hazardous asbestos materials
- Strong, newly built timber roof structure
- Fully waterproof, modern flat roof system
- Clean, low-maintenance uPVC roofline
- Improved drainage with new guttering and downpipes
- Restored brickwork for a clean, finished look
The new roof not only looks far better but is built to last, providing long-term protection against the elements.
Our Flat Roof Repalcement Process
1. Safe Asbestos Removal
We carefully removed and disposed of the existing asbestos roofing in line with current safety regulations, ensuring the site was safe for further construction.
2. Strip-Out & Structural Preparation
The entire roof structure was stripped back, removing old timbers and clearing the area ready for a full rebuild.
3. New Timber Framework (Rafters)
We installed brand new treated timber rafters, creating a solid and level structural base for the new flat roof system.
4. Roof Deck Installation
An 18mm treated ply deck was fitted across the new framework, providing a strong and durable base for the roofing membrane.
5. High-Performance Flat Roof System
A new flat roofing system was installed using modern materials, applied with heat to ensure a fully sealed, weatherproof finish designed to withstand the UK climate.
6. Fascias, Soffits & Rainwater Goods
We fitted new uPVC fascias, along with new guttering and a downpipe system to improve water runoff and protect the structure from future damage.
7. Brickwork Repairs & Repointing
All damaged brickwork was repaired and repointed where required, restoring the integrity and appearance of the surrounding structure.
