Transforming an Old Timber Deck into a Modern Porcelain Patio
Our team recently completed this Kandla Grey porcelain patio installation in West Malling, transforming an ageing timber-decked garden into a clean, durable and stylish outdoor living space.
The original decking had become tired, uneven and difficult to maintain, with damaged sections and an exposed sub-frame affecting both the appearance and usability of the garden. The homeowner wanted a low-maintenance patio that would create a smart, practical area for relaxing and entertaining while complementing the property’s existing brickwork and garden building.

The Project
We began by removing the existing timber decking and clearing the old framework, allowing us to prepare the entire area properly from the ground up. Once the space had been excavated and levelled, a solid sub-base was installed to provide a strong, stable foundation for the new porcelain patio.
The paving was laid on a full mortar bed to ensure a secure and long-lasting finish. We used large-format Kandla Grey porcelain slabs in a staggered pattern, creating a modern layout that gives the garden a spacious and premium feel.
To add contrast and definition, the patio was finished with a dark charcoal border around the perimeter. A strip of decorative white gravel was also introduced alongside the building and garden edges, helping to soften the finish while keeping the area clean and easy to maintain.
Careful attention was given to drainage and access points, including a discreet recessed manhole cover that blends into the patio layout without interrupting the overall design. The raised planting area was retained to preserve greenery and create a softer boundary around the new paved space.
The Finished Result
The completed Kandla Grey porcelain patio has completely transformed this West Malling garden. What was once an ageing decked area is now a modern, practical and attractive outdoor space that feels brighter, larger and far easier to maintain.
The soft grey tones of the porcelain work beautifully against the warm brickwork and white garden room, while the dark edging gives the patio a crisp, high-end finish. The result is a durable outdoor living space that the homeowner can enjoy throughout the year.
